The Birthday Clock
My life suffered an incremental push yesterday. Yep, it was my birthday once again. They seem to be coming quicker and quicker every year. Right or wrong, i’ve done a fairly good job convincing myself they are.
Rather than stay at home and beg myself for self pity I looked at it as an opportunity to get out of the house and adjust my belt by a notch. A notch in the wrong direction. A smorgasbord of food, drink and low key fun was awaiting.
For whatever reason I’ve never been one to get a group of people together for my birthday. Making a fuss over a day I stopped counting after I hit the age of 30 simply isn’t my thing anymore. Opting for a quiet evening with my girlfriend however was something I was looking forward to..
After a delicious meal at Play (Play Food) in Ottawa’s Byward Market we took a walk over the river to BDT (Brasseurs du Temps) in Hull Quebec to consume some adult beverages.
There was a theme to the evening as both establishments are located in beautiful 100+ year old historical buildings. BDT was an old pulp mill that was completely gutted out and re-built as an outstanding micro-brewery. I have to thank my friend Phil Giroux for introducing me to the place a few weeks ago. Phil sure knows Quebec.
I must recommend the beer clock to anyone planning to visit BDT. It’s a sample collection of the 12 different beers brewed on the premises. A fun experience indeed for anyone who likes to experiment and taste test beer.
And that was it… A fun night indeed.
Another year.
Another beer.
Whisky next year?
Oh dear!
(worst poetry ever)
So It looks like I survived my birthday once again.
Maybe… Just maybe… Birthdays aren’t so bad after all.
Montreal Madness
With a little help from StubHub we were able to take in the Habs / Capitals playoff hockey game in Montreal last night. What we got to witness was an amazing goal tending performance by the Canadiens Jaroslav Halak.
I captured a short clip of the post game celebration outside the Bell Centre after the Canadiens victory. The enthusiasm shown by the Montreal fans is unmatched anywhere in the hockey world.
Let’s hope my favourite team the Ottawa Senators find their stride next year after a quick elimination over the weekend to the Pittsburgh Penguins. As a long time fan Game 6 on Saturday night was painful to watch.
I will be tuning in to game 7 tomorrow night as the Habs battle to move unto the next round of the NHL playoffs. As much as it pains me to say this publicly…
Go Habs Go!
PS. I apologize for the crappy quality of the video. Unfortunately that’s a good as it gets when capturing video on the iPhone 3G. I’m looking forward to the improvements promised on the upcoming iPhone 4. Look for more video content on this blog once the iPhone 4 get released sometime this summer. (Yes, I plan on buying one)
